Applications

DMT Low-Energy door operators are offered for three basic applications, all designed primarily to increase accessibility for the disabled and elderly. We offer models in three basic categories: Residential door operators Elevator swing-door operators and Commercial door operators

Residential:

the DuraSwing 4R (Residential) operator is a power open, power close operator derived from our DuraSwing 4 professional grade commercial machine and as such is as tough and dependable as it is quiet and visually out of the way. It features a wireless receiver as well as power and control for a variety of locking/latching systems. This operator is straightforward to install, and allows the door to be manually used as a normal door, until it is activated by a wireless or wired button, of which there are several models, each one appropriate for the client’s level of disability-most of which are wheelchair mountable. Another unique feature is that the unit is available with a choice of programs. The standard program allows the door to open and stay open until the owner chooses to close it by merely pushing the activator button again (most competitors feature a spring-loaded system that needs to close after a while or the motor will overheat and be damaged). The optional program is for a timed automatic close -no extra charge.

Elevator and Wheelchair Lift:

The DuraSwing family includes special applications for residential elevators, L.U.L.A (limited use, limited acces) elevators and wheelchair lifts that have a swing type door. These are designated the DS series, the DuraSwing-4H, DuraSwing-4C and DuraSwing-4S The unique vertical characteristic of these machines fitted with special microprocessor programs and some minor hardware variations provide an installation-flexible door and gate operator that mimics sliding elevator doors in operation and safety. A closed-loop design, the “brains” of the machine calculates rate of opening, position and resistance on its way to full-open. These calculations continually monitor and adjust speed and force, and can stop the door when obstructed, pause and try again in the open direction twice, and if the obstruction persists, the door will reverse and shut down. In the close cycle the door will continue in its attempts until it does finally close. The SafeTek program has proven itself for well over a decade to be safe and reliable. For wheelchair lifts, the challenge is to use a gate operator that doesn’t need a header, since the lower gate is almost always a 42” high swing “door” with no structure to support the door operator above it. DMT has supplied these operators to most major wheelchair lift companies in the US and Canada, some for over 14 years, as well as local elevator and lift companies installing and retro-fitting them across the continent.

Commercial:

This series features two Low Energy* commercial door operators, the DuraSwing 4 and DuraSwing 5+.

The DuraSwing 4

is a vertical format power open only door operator. The door closing function is left to the existing hydraulic closer. In this configuration, the actuator arm opens the door with a urethane roller that does not attach to the door but instead rolls the door open. The great benefit of this feature is that manual cycling of the door will not add any wear and tear to the operator…none at all. High traffic doors can get up to 100K cycles per day, and the hydraulic closers tend to be replaced in a year or two.The DuraSwing 4 has been load-cycled up to one million actuations to test the gearbox and motor windings, brushes, etc. The vertical format of the operator allows for the unit to be non-handed, meaning that there is no Left or Right swing designation…it is both! Motor rotation direction is determined at the site with motor polarity. This model can inswing or outswing doors, as well as operate with the motor shaft pointing down to the floor (needs 12” clearance above the bottom of the header) or inverted (pointing up) if there is not above the door clearance. Door weight or size generally makes no difference to the DuraSwing 4, which is equipped with a wireless receiver to make an easy installation even easier.

The DuraSwing 5

is a horizontal format, power-open (electric) &- passive close (hydraulic) door operator. This is the line’s most heavy-duty low-energy door operator. This unit differs from the DuraSwing 4 in that it has an integrated high-end hydraulic closer within the box. This closer has every adjustment available-latch speed, back check, back chec location, spring tension, etc. The gearhead output drives the closer’s spindle to open the door. Like the DuraSwing 4, this model has a built-in wireless receiver, and the same sophisticated-yet simple to adjust microprocessor control and closed-loop SafeTek program. The DuraSwing 5 is handed! Although it can be re-handed on site, it takes an hour or so, so its better to order the appropriate set-up: Left Hand, Right Hand, Inswing, Outswing, etc. Again, door size and weight is not a consideration, just whether the door is hung properly and hinges are in good shape.

Colors:

All door operators come in Mill finish (silver) and Duranodic (dark bronze) colors, and there are a variety of brackets and actuator arms to solve various installation situations. Residential and Elevator models come in Ivory White is standard with the other two colors as optional. Chassis and covers are heavy-gauge steel covered with a fine polyester powder coat finish.

Security:

All our door operators feature a security interface strip, allowing the unit to be easily integrated with magnetic locks, electric lock strikes central security systems and the like, providing relay contacts (normally open and normally closed), plus a 24VDC takeoff to power electric locks, sensors, keypads, etc.

Accessories:

Also available are electric lockstrikes, wall pushplate activators, wireless and hard-wired, wireless keypad and custom wheelchair mounted transmitters built for different levels of disability.

*Low energy door operator definition. The ANSI (American National StandardsIinstitute, Inc.) defines low energy door operators as opening doors no faster to 80 degrees than in 3 seconds. This limits to a safe level the kinetic energy of an opening door that otherwise could potentially hurt a person in its way. DMT operators are factory set to open in 5 seconds providing even better safety, as well as SafeTek obstruction sensing. Low-energy operated doors are not required to have safety sensors, guard rails and other protective equipment
